July, 2012
Here are a few fibery things I’m loving in this hot month of July 2012 –
At Yarnival, I got my copy of Heather Lightbody’s, “Girl With a Hook 2011 Collection”. If you are not going to see Heather at a fiber event, you can get one here through Amazon. This is a must have!
A lot of us love to wear boots and will even wear them in the summer. I know a number of you have made boot toppers from the pattern I posted some time ago on Spin Artiste, but the pattern is designed with warm, thick yarn to keep your legs even warmer than the boots already do. I wanted to wear my Wonder Woman boots at Yarnival and decided to make a summer version of the boot toppers. I knitted just a 4 inch cuff out of Berroco Remix which is a mixture of recycled cotton and linen and trimmed them with beautiful JazzTurtle Creations tailspun yarn. If you decide to try making these, you will have to play with the number of stitches to cast on to fit your leg. I cast on 42 stitches using size 4 DPNs and I have a 15″ calf. One size down(approx 14″ calf) would be 36 stitches and one size up would be 48 stitches (approx 16″ calf).
As you know, I’ve been traveling a bit this summer and I get a lot of compliments on my favorite “knitting” bag which is my Atenti Overnighter. This bag is just the right size for taking on the plane. I can fit everything I need to entertain me on a long flight — knitting, books, lunch, laptop/ipad, and most importantly, the over flow from my suitcase when it’s over 50 pounds!!! I have one with cowgirls on it and cowhide pattern accent but there are so many great patterns to choose from. I got mine from Dreamweaver Yarns (no shipping, good price!). I wouldn’t mind having this one at left in the Sugarskulls pattern.
