On the Road with Spin Artiste: Spin to Wear with Michelle Snowdon aka Wooldancer!

photo(4)Publisher’s Notes:  Even though it’s been a very hectic summer due to my wedding, the opportunity to take a two day workshop with Michelle Snowdon aka Wooldancer, was an experience that neither myself or my new husband felt I could turn down.  I headed down to one of my homes away from spinning home to see my amigas with the SWAY Guild in Sarasota, Florida on Friday to spend two days learning incredible techniques from Michelle.  As always, the SWAY Guild put on a fabulous event and I came home energized and ready to apply Michelle’s teachings.

Michelle who hails from Australia has been visiting the US for a few weeks starting with Yarnival two weeks ago in Placerville, CA, and has just one more stop on her US summer tour at Madison Wool in Madison, Connecticut this coming weekend (August 10 – 11). If anyone reading this has been thinking about going but wasn’t sure, I’m here to tell you, it was simply fantastic.  Michelle is an excellent teacher, inspiring artist and most incredibly everything in the class comes off your wheel as a finished piece ready to wear!!!

Michelle has been kind enough to share some of her pictures and thoughts about her trip with me and I thought you’d like to see them too.  Take it away, Michelle!

This photo of Heather GWAH Lightbody & I, taken at Yarnival, captures a memorable moment when I received a beautiful beanie that Heather made with fiber I had dyed & sent to her to spin. Yarnival was the most amazing experience for me on many levels. I enjoyed teaching & showing my work in Lexi’s amazing stone gallery space. However, this festival is so much more about the friendships and connections we all make with fellow fibre artists. All of the people I met embody the spirit of the immensely creative space Lexi creates for people to meet, share and inspire one another. Unforgettable.”

  1. I totally agree that this workshop was incredible. Even though I considers myself an experienced spinner, I learn so much nit only about technique but design, and implementing them into finished pieces. Michele is delightful and Inspiring. Go if there is anyway you can.

  2. I would have loved to go to this (still want to make it to Yarnival one year, too!) but alas there was no way it was going to happen. If Michelle ever teaches in Eugene Oregon, though (or even Portland) I am so there!

  3. This was absolutely one of the most amazing workshops I’ve ever attended. Energizing, wonderful project planning advice, and absolute creativity on so many levels. Fantastic!

  4. I grew up in Placerville and think it’s great that there are fiber events there-I know that Lexi’s from nearby-I’d love to see her gallery
