nxbluetrans250Hey there Fiber Friends!  Last weekend was Spin Quest as many of you know and it was So. Much. Fun. this year!!  I will have a whole post devoted to that coming up soon as well as my belated Team Nevermore Tour De Fleece post, but in the meantime, I had to hurry up and let you know about another fantastic fiber event coming up in a few weeks put on my my friends at Nimblestix.

Graves Mountain 3Afterall, who doesn’t like a get away for some fibery goodness? With all the hustle and bustle of life, there is nothing like being able to spend some one on one time with fiber friends in a beautiful setting.  Our friends from Nimblestix are hosting their Nimblestix Mountain Retreat in Syria, Virginia from October 4th to the 6th.

For those of you who are not familiar with Nimblestix, it is a social and learning site for fiber artists.  The mission of the site is to help new and old fiber enthusiasts grow in their skills through providing teaching resources, forums to share new ideas, and an outlet for artists to track their progress in fiber.  And now Nimblestix wants to take their fiber community a step further by welcoming one and all to a fiber filled weekend in the mountain tops of Syria, Virginia.

Here’s a little run down on what is on the agenda for the weekend:  On October 4th, guests will arrive and find their way to their rugged-yet-beautiful rooms in the Graves Mountain Lodge and spend time will fellow fiber friends at a group bonfire.  On Saturday guests can pick from 6 amazing fiber classes (3 morning classes and 3 afternoon classes).    The line-up of teachers includes some of the wonderful teachers:  Leann Ross will be teaching beginner spindles, Linda Minnick is sharing her secrets on spinning soft core, and Genia Planck teaches on how to create the perfect sock heel.  There will also be time for spinning and enjoying live music with friends.  Plus, there is going to be a wine tasting!!!  The Fall Fiber Festival is just 40 minutes away so if you are like me with an unlimited appetite for all things fiber, you can pack in even more fun into your trip.

There will also be some cool vendors to check out including:

Two Rivers Yarns – beginner spindles, tools, fiber
Starknits – Hand made bags and stitch markers
Dazzling Dragonfly- hand made supported spindles from exotic hard woods
Wandering Wool – Hand dyed yarn

There are a couple of things about this retreat that are unique that I wanted to share with you.  A big one for me is that they are offering wheel rental so that travelers do not need to hassle with lugging wheels or the prospect of no wheel at all.  This is a great chance for beginner spinners to learn and have a wheel for a whole weekend to help them get started.  It is also apple harvest weekend at the mountain and there will be live music as well as apple picking.  There will even be large fires going in the orchard and people making apple butter!  The folks with Dazzling Dragonfly will be demo-ing supported spindle spinning all afternoon so people can learn and practice.  Guests can have as active or as quiet a weekend as they desire.

Graves MountainAnother nice feature is that all meals are on site and included.   The hosts have designed this to be a small retreat so you can anticipate a lot of new fiber friendships!   This is perfect for people to come as a small group from their guild but also people don’t have to be shy about coming by themselves.

So if you are looking for a relaxing get away in the scenic woodland mountains with friends and your one true love…fiber, then look no further.  Just pop over to the Nimblestix website and register today, and they’ll see you at the Nimblestix Mountain Retreat Weekend!

DR-GRF bopeepWho won Dawn Richardson’s (of Grindstone Ridge Farm) sweet Little Lambie??? Gail!  Congratulations, Gail — I will be in touch to get your mailing info.

Happy Labor Day to the folks living in the USA!  Now that we are in September, the fall will be quickly upon us which is such a special time for fiber enthusiasts.  I will be back in a couple of days to deliver on some of the content that’s been stacking up!
