Special Sunday Night Edition: Calling All Fiber Artists — Readers’ Favorite Winter Carnival Contest

Good Evening, Fiber Pals!  Behold at your left,  a picture of the first yarn yours truly spun on my Indian Head Spinner.  Confession:  While I longed for this wheel in a big way, up until today, this wheel and I have not exactly been friends.  She’s a little tough to spin on, but I’m fascinated by the design of the wheel and dream of making big fat singles out of Churro fiber that will then turn into wonderful Navajo woven rugs.

Well, as of this afternoon, I’m one step closer because the Indian Head Spinner aka “Cowichan” and I are now on much better terms.  I wanted some really fat, bulky yarn and the Cowichan didn’t disappoint.  Yay!

Enough about that, you say…Get on with the contest info!

I’ve been getting updates from some of the wonderful fiber artists that have been featured here and over the weekend Ashley Martineau sent an email letting me know what she’s been up to (to be included in an upcoming post).  Ashley had a fantastic idea for a contest for Spin Artiste and tonight’s the night to roll out the details for the Readers’ Favorite Winter Carnival Contest.

Honestly, I’m not much of a winter person having lived far too many winters in the Western, NY snow belt.  But, if I learned one thing while living there, it was that the best way to deal with winter was to embrace it!  Snow flakes, hot cocoa, fuzzy sweaters, crisp air, crackling fires, cookies, winter sports!!  In honor of the upcoming season, let’s have a Spin Artiste Winter Carnival — send in an image of your own original fiber creation representing an interpretation of winter.  The deadline is three weeks from tonight — Sunday, December 4th.  I will post the images and then, the Spin Artiste readers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite.  You may enter up to three pieces.  The winner will receive three months of free advertising on Spin Artiste!!

I can’t wait to see what y’all come up with — send your images to thespinartiste@gmail.com

Wishing you all the fibery best, Arlene

  4. I did not see this contest until a few days ago but providence would have it that I have been on a fuzzy spinfest creation for the entire year of 2011. In January, 2011, I started to spin up my yarn and I spun for 3 months. When I wound it all out, I had spun over 4000 yds. I was shooting for about 2000 yds! Then I wove a large piece with the 2000 yds which took me several more months. Then I had to sit and think what to do with the other 2000 yds. which took another couple of months. From that second 2000 yds, there has emerged 5 other pieces which still does not finish the entire ensemble. I have more yarn STILL to finish two more items but even with those 2 pieces still not done, I have had a complete Head to ankle as I can not lie and say Head to Toe experience. My shoes are NOT made of fiber.!!!

I have to wait until Hubby comes home around the beginning of December to get the photos taken of me in the complete outfit as I have photos in one of the pieces but that is all. Look for my email with my photos at the last minute as Chaz is in Australia and not sure when he is coming home.
