Evening Everyone!  Here we are, Sunday night again — sheesh, weekend, what happened to you?  But, at least, we can end the weekend with some awesome fiber fun.

For starters, the generous and talented Melissa Bohrtz from Hello Purl has a beautiful batt for one lucky reader!

Per Melissa, the 3 oz. batt pictured at left contains: Border Leicester, Cotswold, Alpaca, Mohair, Soy Silk, Faux Cashmere, Angelina, and Silk NoilThe colors are gorgeous and I love the orange peeking out.  To enter, please leave a comment on this post telling us what’s on your wheel right now.  Additional entries for sharing on FB and/or tweeting.  Best of luck to all — I wish I could enter.  The deadline for entries is next Sunday, 5:00 PM.

Onto the “Handspun” winner…wow, I hope you had a chance to read the comments with the descriptions of the self-portraits.  For me, the descriptions brought both smiles and tears.  Thanks so much for your participation and honesty.  Our winner is Fawn Faribault!  Fawn, I will send you an email to coordinate getting your beautiful book to you.

The last fiber treat for tonight, if you haven’t already seen it, is the new “Love” section of the website where I’ve got a notes on the various things I run across that are fun to share with you.  If you have suggestions for me to check out, please drop me an email at thespinartiste@gmail.com.

That’s all for now…be back later this week with our next Featured Artist!  Until then, all my fibery best, Arlene

  1. I don’t have a wheel yet (dad is making me one and I’m feebly helping XD im not too good with big power tools lol) I did get a bit of fiber from Sheep Shed but its all natural colors(nothing wrong with that I may dye some eventually anyway) Having a bit of bright color to add to the “collection” would be cool!

  2. Still have the “wheel” on my wishing list. I didn’t have room to bring my drop spindle when I moved (will be going back sometime this summer for things), but it had a lovely blue variegated wool the last time I spun it around.

  3. I have started spinning some icy blue dyed mohair locks, it’s a first for me and I am having so much fun exploring where the beautiful locks are leading me. Inspired!!

  4. Hi!
Congratulations Fawn… You’re going to LOVE your new book.

I have some yummy bubble gum pink faux cashmere on the Kromski Sonata and some purple tail-spinning on the Ashford Country Spinner.

  5. Alpaca Outbacka (Renee Gray)

Neat! Reminds me of the rainbow alpaca I’m spinning right now! The colors are very similar.

  6. I just pulled a chain plied merino yarn off the bobbin. I autowrapped it with an alpaca laceweight yarn.

  7. My wheel is currently undergoing repairs but I have some natural alpaca ready to go when the wheel is done!

  8. Sable brown llama on my wheel but I can easily switch bobbin for the beautiful batt above. Will share on my fb & Gaylord Knitters group.

  9. currently I’m attempting (newer spinner here) to spin up a blended roving that is a brown from my Huacaya alpaca Carly, blended with dark fawn from my Suri Siesta, and then swirled with white Huacaya from my Lacy. Spinning up really nicely.

  10. Gulf Coast Native “Sally,” our bratful ewe, who just abandoned a set of twins…or should I say…just delivered to us a set of twin bottle babies, is on the Fricke. This is her 2010 fleece, au naturel. I’ve been knitting a cabled vest from a Sally 2-ply, and the yarn is so perfect for popping cables, that I’m spinning more while I have it fresh in my mind.

What would it be like to spin up a melange of fibers like those in Melissa’s batt!!!!???!!!

  11. My wheel has lockspun Lincoln lamb with feathers from the Namaste Farm tutorial!
    That batt is gorgeous!

  12. My wheel is stashed away at my brother’s, waiting for me to move from Norway to Denmark soon. But on my turkish delight I am spinning merino tops in varying shades of green. Another spindle is twining silk hankies, and the third spindle is spinning black alpaca.

  13. Nothing on my wheel right now!!! I’m going to test-spin this week because my piggy-bank is full and I am going to upgrade from a LouetS10 to a Schacht??? or a Majacraft???? I would love to get this lovely starter to spin on my new wheel.

  14. today I am spinning a nice bulky merino single to add to an art yarn order I am making up, it will be plied with some eyelash yarn, adding come supercoils and a sparkly autowrap 🙂 But I would love to have a go at this gorgeous Hello Purl batt!

  15. I just finished a 3 oz. Kitchen Sink Batt from Lilee’s Gram Knits. It is a wild fusion of reds, oranges, and hot pinks. It is made from merino, suffolk, corridale, and some firestar. I spun into a thick/thin single using a long draw. There are a lot of slubs that just pop out of the suffolk. I’ll felt the yarn to give it stability, and use it in a fun hat.

  16. I am spinning a super soft batt full of Cormo, Wensleydale, Kid Mohair and Angelina. I is sooooo soft!! It is a blend of purple, pink, with hints of orange and turquoise. 🙂

  17. Jennifer Clinton

I’m currently working on a recycling project. A bright pink and vibrant blue cotton from 2 sweaters that I’m plying together. Not sure what it will be after that. I’m waiting on it to tell me.

  18. I’m currently coiling 4 oz of merino in rose, pink, and brown tones over a merino core. I’ve spun pink fabric flowers, fabric leaves, and wooden triangle beads into the thick-and-thin single. I love the colors!

  19. I am currently spinning on my original wheel (Louet, which I bought in the late 70’s!) Romney roving which I hand dyed in muted blues, greens and purples. Orange and fuschia together are my favorite colors. I would really like to spin one of these fluffy batts.

  21. Well, I have always wanted to knit. Tried once, when I had finished the scarf it started unraveling and the entire piece came apart. I love to visit yarn shops just to observe the colors and bought several skeins. Decided to start coiling baskets with yarn instead of the raffia I was using. I love how they are turning out and this has kept me busy since I have moved away from my potters wheel and kiln. I miss pottery immensely, but this coiling method of making baskets reminds me of the clay coiled pots.

  22. Right now, as we speak, Vinny is on my wheel. I am taking a break from an hour of spinning. Vinny is a alpaca that lives by my best friends house. She sent me the last of Vinny’s roving for Christmas. I just dyed it a variegated maroon, purple, blues and pinks and started spinning. I am happy so far and can’t wait to ply. I plan on knitting long fingerless gloves…..fun fun fun

  23. I am currently spinning some Alpaca batts with a spinning add-in kit from Via Verde Farm.
