Greetings Fiber Friends! It has been an especially fibery weekend and I can’t wait to share the details with you tonight.
What a week for things to win at Spin Artiste! I so wished I could have entered for both the Soulfibre mask and the Wooldancer yarn…sniff, sniff…Without further ado, the winner of the Soulfibre mask is Aubrey Barkley who requested “I’d love to see a wicked witch or a cat for Halloween. But my top choice would be a pumpkin head, evil with teeth of course. Sort of reminding me of the story of Sleepy Hollow.” The very lucky winner of the Wooldancer yarn is Joy Hayworth! Thanks to everyone who commented with their kind and supportive words. Aubrey and Joy, I will be in touch via email to coordinate your getting your amazing items. And, don’t forget that as a Spin Artiste reader both Melissa and Michelle have created special savings for you: From Soulfibre, save $10 on a mask from her etsy shop by using the coupon SPIN10MASK. Over at Wooldancer’s shop, get 15% off of hand dyed yarns and fibers (excludes workshop bookings and art wear items)at her website till midnight September 15th using the coupon code SPINARTISTE15.
Now, I have to make a confession. A couple of folks commented on the Soulfibre mask post about how creepy the clown mask is. Well, guess who bought that one? The same person who runs around in the Wonder Woman Boots at fiber events…yes, me…But, I didn’t buy it for myself — it’s a gift for my SO. You see, Melissa had the clown on display at Yarnival and my SO saw it and I could tell by the gleam in his eye that he REALLY wanted it. You know how it is when you someone who you love and isn’t easy to buy for wants something, you grab it, right? So, after he walked away from the clown, I pulled Melissa aside and said, “don’t sell that to him. I ‘m going to buy it for him for Christmas.” Sure enough, within two hours, he was back at her booth asking to buy it and Melissa had to tell him that it was already gone. Disappointed, he told several people in our group of how much he wanted it, etc. Later that evening, he told me that he was going to ask Melissa to make him another one. As he likes to say, “the heart wants what the heart wants.” So, I had to spill the beans because I didn’t want to put Melissa in an awkward position twice! But, I told him he still has to wait for Christmas. So, the clown is hidden away…for now, but yes, eventually it will be on display in our home which is decorated in a style I call “Whacky Cabin”. Phew! I feel better now.
The Leather and Lace Challenge kits went out early last week and I’ve already seen some of the yarns that artists have made (See this post if you want to learn more about this event). Debra and I have been busy getting things ready that accompany the collection to the host locations. Before the yarns go on the road, you will get to see a gallery of them here at Spin Artiste. I’d like to do more of these types of events next year. Right now, I’m thinking of a traveling collection assembled to travel along the west coast of the U.S. and one that will travel across Europe. If you have ideas for host locations or are interested in being a host location, please get in touch with me at email@example.com.
