Variety Pack Post: Fabulosity Yarn Giveaway, Secret Stash Game 3 Kit Revealed, and a Special Handspun Yarn

I’m a bit late this week because I’ve been travelling — we were visiting Colonial Williamsburg this week.  I have not been there in about thirty years and it was a good excuse to buy both some Leicester Longwool roving and yarn.  The story about Colonial Williamsburg and the work they have done to save this breed can be read about here.

I have several treats to share though!

First up, as promised, Joy Hayworth of Fabulosity has an awesome giveaway for us:  Pop Rocks Yarn.   Here’s Joy’s description:  “I carded batts using my handpainted merino/domestic wool roving, Romney locks that I dyed, angelina and firestar sparkle, silk and much more. I spun it and then plied it with rainbow cotton crochet thread. 135 yards/4.5 oz.”

135 yards — great yardage!  So, to enter for this yummy yarn, please leave a comment on this post by 5 pm, Sunday June 3 — Let us know what this yarn would inspire you to make.  Additional entries for sharing on Facebook, Twitter, etc.  Just leave an extra comment.  Good luck!!

The Secret Stash Game, Round 3 is in full swing.  I have gotten some messages from the players letting me know that many have received their kits, including several of our European players (received in about a week — thank you, post office!).   To the right is an example of one of the kits.

Included was a good quantity of Cheviot roving from Alba Ranch, grey locks from Namaste Farms, brown wool from Picasso’s Moon Yarn Shop, silver sparkle from Hello Purl, hand dyed rainbow wool top from Wild Hare Fiber Studio, thread from Mada Vemi Alpacas and vintage beads from Homestead Wool and Gift Farm.  As you can see, the kit included a doll.  What you can’t see so well is that each kit also included a quantity of vintage chenille bedspread.  Some players got complete dolls and some got doll heads.  The doll and fabric are from the Spin Artiste studio.  The players have until about the third week of June to get pictures back.  So, the project reveal will be at the end of June.

The next round is going to be part of Spin Quest which will include a live version and will be held on August 25th — would love to see you there!  There is still room to register and there are still a couple of vendor slots available.

Once the fall comes, we’ll be back to playing Secret Stash here at the website.  If you are interested in playing, the first 20 people  that pay for their kit will be reserved for the upcoming round in the fall.  Here’s the button to reserve your slot:

Finally, I have to share a pic of a very special yarn I received from Suzy Brown aka Wool Wench.  Suzy has an Indiegogo campaign going on right now to help fund the purchase of an Aura wheel by Majacraft.  I got my donation in as soon as the campaign launched and my award was the spectacular yarn you see to the left.  I just took a quick pic for you so you could see that the contribution was well worthwhile!  The yarn is super soft and I love the natural colors and the copper accents Suzy included.  Suzy is incredibly talented — you can see her Secret Stash entries here and here.  Even if I hadn’t received the yarn, I have to say that Suzy’s entertaining updates for the campaign were worth contributing for all by themselves.  Suzy’s campaign ends in about five days and she’s getting pretty close — it would be great to see her get there!!

So, that wraps it up for tonight.

  3. I am a felter and I can totally see using this yarn to decorate a resist made purse. Laying the yarn on the surface of the wool roving would incorporate the two into a new and unique fabric – Oh the possibilities! I’m all giddy just thinking about it!!! Wheeee 😀
